Liquid Software
One of our favorite customers reminded us of an important truth the other day. He said, “We don’t want your software. We want a better business.”
We often focus on our own products, software, tools, services, and programs. We have to remind ourselves that these are merely a means to an end – not an end in themselves. Our objective is to help you build a better business. That may require more or better software, more or better services – or maybe something entirely different that we haven’t dreamed up yet. We need to remember that it’s all about you, not about us. Our mission, after all, is to make our customers stronger.
That’s one of the reasons we’re moving more toward “liquid” software. Software should adapt to your needs rather than vice-versa. Wouldn’t it be great if you could simply do what you need to do and the software figures out the rest? Liquids adapt to the shape of the container they’re in. Ideally, software should do the same. We’ve taken a huge step with Smart Office – you arrange your workspace the way you want to. Casual users may want more help. Power users may want more speed. It’s up to you. Isn’t that the way it ought to be?
We think there’s more we can do. Like making it easier to incorporate social networking into your Human Capital Management solution. Or incorporating software you already use – like Microsoft Excel – as part of your user interface. Or sending you messages and alerts with software that’s already on your desktop – like Microsoft Outlook. We’d like to take advantage of what you already know. It makes you more productive. When you do more, your company does more. And that’s what we all want.
