Can you get it here by Tuesday?
Your customer wants the package delivered by next Tuesday. Can you do it? Are you sure?
To make that kind of commitment, you need several different pieces of data. Are all the items in stock? If not, when will they arrive? Does the order need to be prioritized ahead of other orders in the Distribution Center? If so, what gets bumped? When does the right truck arrive? What’s the route schedule?
It’s a complex question to answer. Answering it correctly depends not only on what you have but also on complex route scheduling. Just because you can get it packed in time doesn’t mean that you can get it delivered in time.
So, we think it’s rather odd that the Lawson M3 suite is one of the few ERP systems that has route scheduling built right into it. Most other ERP systems stop at the outbound shipping dock. To figure out the last part of the equation, you need to buy a specialized system and do all the integration work yourself. That’s costly and complicated. It’s yet another reason why we contend that we deliver more value per dollar invested than any other ERP system.
