Is it Licit to Laugh?
Umberto Eco's novel, The Name of the Rose, is set in a medieval monastery. Much of the plot revolves around a burning theological question: Is it licit to laugh?
The monks in the novel have spent their lives studying the Bible. They've noticed that there's not much laughter in the Good Book. So they ask themselves, is humor holy or unholy? Is it OK to laugh?
We might ask the same question of the ERP industry. When was the last time an ERP company made you laugh? When was the last time an ERP company made you feel good? It's become a pretty grim industry over the past few years. It's almost like we believe that laughter and cheerfulness are sins.
We often compare ourselves to the BigCo ERP vendors. What do they have that Lawson doesn't have? Better name recognition. What does Lawson have that they don't have? A sense of humor (and a sense of humility).
ERP is a tough business. It's tougher if you're humorless. Let's make sure we have some fun along the way.
