IKEA Components, a wholesale distribution unit within the IKEA group, is a global organization that implemented a business intelligence (BI) and performance management (PM) system to manage the planning and execution of an ERP upgrade to better support business operations. IKEA Components uses this system to set concrete improvement targets across a set of core key performance indicators (KPIs).
Key Findings
A business modeling tool, Lawson Opportunity Analyzer (OA), helped IKEA Components convert business strategies into business opportunities and support its overall corporate strategic objectives. It also enabled it to map, target and plan KPI improvements that further helped to determine best practices to implement and to make their company more competitive.
The tool was instrumental in increasing IKEA Components' BI and PM vision. It helped uncover the profitability impact of an ERP upgrade/implementation and which business processes, best practices and improvements to implement first.
After the analysis was completed in OA, IKEA Components loaded KPIs tied to quantified improvements into its BI platform. Measuring these KPIs over time provides the necessary inputs for continuous business process improvements.
